ULTIMATE CARDINAL
CARDINALS Strive to Get Bigger, Faster, and Stronger.
The Eleva-Strum Football Team competes twice a year in the Ultimate CARDINAL Test. The test is given at the end of June and end of December. The test consists of nine events designed to measure each athlete's speed, quickness, agility, strength, and power. Records will be kept on each player from the time they begin testing as incoming 9th graders to the time they graduate.
The events tested are: hex bar dead lift, bench press, parallel squat, power clean, deadliest forty yard dash, vertical jump, bench hops, pro agility dash, and standing long jump. The players earn points (point system) based on their performance on each event and then the points are totaled to determine the athletes overall score based on the following scale:
250 and up Ultimate CARDINAL
225 - 249 Nasty CARDINAL
200 - 224 Ultra CARDINAL
175 – 199 Super CARDINAL
150 – 174 Champion
120 – 149 Winner
The test was created by the legendary Valdosta High School coach, Nick Hyder, as a measuring stick to determine his best athletes. Valdosta High School, located in Georgia, is known as one of the top high school football programs in the nation. Coach Hyder believed that it was essential for all his starting players to at least reach the "Winner" level of the test to have a highly successful team. More recently, Coach Jed Kennedy adopted this test when he arrived 4 years ago at Kenosha Bradford. Coach Kennedy believed that this was an integral part of leading them to the state championship in 2011. To mesh with our Bigger, Faster, Stronger core lifts we have added the Hex Bar Dead Lift in as well. The Hex Bar Dead Lift is scored using the Squat point totals.
